With this book, I tell the story of my transformation from a diehard scientific materialist to an open-minded spiritual seeker, and the excruciating identity crisis that ensued.
It’s a book about my search for both scientific and personal “proof” that there’s more to the Cosmos. An unseen dimension to life. That the mysteries of human experience go far beyond what the present scientific paradigm can comprehend. It leaves open the possibility of a participatory, meaningful Universe. In my mind, there are four threads that run through the book:
After a series of life-altering events, I started a project interviewing mystics, intuitives, and scientists trying to understand the meaning of life, fate and destiny. I share the extensive research I discovered. A few casual interviews for my own edification snowballed into the most extraordinary conversations of my life. One person introduced me to the next and so on until I had found myself in the bewildering situation of speaking with high-level current and former government researchers about the connections between science, spirituality, consciousness, and the nature of reality. The journey brought to my attention that the Western worldview, although touted as the superior worldview, is still just a belief system. Once you accept that, the world of possibilities opens up. So, yeah, there’s some stuff in the book that is ‘fringe,’ but I simply followed the evidence. At some point in the journey, I realized it would be unscientific to stay with the scientific materialist paradigm – the data just didn’t fit that model. That’s when the identity crisis ensued. I could have described all these unacceptable-to-mainstream concepts with vague language, but I don’t want to do that. Let’s just call it what it is and recognize that morphing/contorting language to make ourselves feel comfortable, is just that – making ourselves comfortable with concepts with which we are uncomfortable. The underlying concepts, forms, and archetypes will always be the same, no matter what you call them (aka unitary consciousness, intuition, psychic phenomena, cosmic consciousness, etc). I wrote the book for anyone in this scientific materialistic Western culture who finds themselves going through a similar psychospiritual crisis as I went through. It’s the book I wish I had when I was suffocating with confusion. Let's re-enchant the world. |
